Ready for occupation May 2018 - a substantial new character house and detached garage with accommodation over set on a superb level plot within established half acre gardens at the heart of this highly sought after and ancient village, close to Royal Tunbridge Wells.
Saxons, St Mary’s Lane, Speldhurst, Royal Tunbridge Wells, Kent
Situated adjacent to the church and in easy walk of all village amenities, bus service etc. and The George & Dragon Inn.
The property will be constructed to a high standard and benefit from a ten year building warranty. House to be approximately 3,480 square feet. Plus detached double garage/cart barn.
Speldhurst has a very pretty centre, and is an old village possibly originating in Saxon times as most villages with ‘hurst’ in them are derived from the Saxon for wood.
The first record of the church is in 1239 in the church record of the rectors with the current tower being constructed in the 1300's. In 1791, the church was hit by a bolt of lightning, and with the exception of the lower part of the church tower was completely destroyed. A temporary church was constructed in 1805, but in 1870 it was removed and the present church was constructed.
The George and Dragon is a most attractive public house originally built in 1212 and said to have used a ships timber from one of Henry VIII ships as a main roof supporting beam.
Although a delightful country village, Speldhust is most conveniently located close to Royal Tunbridge Wells, less than a quarter of a hour’s drive away, where all the major high street chains are to be found, department stores, quality restaurants, theatres and entertainment, and of course the famous ‘Pantiles’. Also frequent and fast trains to London; alternative stations close by are High Brooms, and Tonbridge (around 35-45 minutes to London, 4 trains an hour).
